Service grants finalized for four area organizations
Our club has finalized its latest round of service grants to area organizations, and the first under a new grant application process put in place under Past President Terri Deike and being overseen by Service Projects Director Dietrich Johnson. Recipients are Friends of Partners in Prevention, D.O.R.S. Youth Transition Center, Longview Community Ministries and Newgate Mission.
The grants totaled $15,000 and will help feed those in need in our city through two programs, provide services to homeless teens and support a program that highlights our neighbors making an impact on unity and social change. Here’s a look:
Friends of Partners in Prevention – $3,000 to assist with production of the annual Unity Honors luncheon, which is coming up later this month. The annual event, which is Jan. 29 at Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center, honors those who work for diversity and inclusion.
D.O.R.S. Youth Transition Center – $4,000 to provide computer equipment for the program that provides life skills classes and other programs for homeless youth.
Longview Community Ministries – $4,000 to help bridge a gap caused by cuts from Greater Longview United Way funding in the program that provides food and other services for residents in need.
Newgate Mission – $4,000 to help feed the poor and others who are served by the mission, which also is working to expand its campus on the south side of Longview.
